The name Mondo was inspired by the
name of the company’s founder,
Edmondo Giovanni Stroppiana.
In the beginning there was Tenax, an
adhesive used to repair inner tubes.
Then came the balls for “Pallapugno”, a sort
of handball games.
1950
The turning point: 500,000 promotional
balls for Ferrero SpA.
1954
Production of the “Elios” car mats for the
Topolino Fiat.
1955
Building of the first plant used to produce
rubber flooring for public use in Gallo
d’Alba.
1956
Installation of the first multipurpose
gymnasium in Savona.
1961
Italia ‘61:
Mondo supplies the flooring for the
100th anniversary of Italian Unification.
1962
“Super Santos” arrives after Brazil’s
victory in the Football World Cup.
1964
Creation of the famous studded flooring.
Mondo supplies the flooring for the
staircase at the Vatican Library.
1968
Balls are now being produced at the rate
of 50,000 per day.
1969
A long process of study and research
leads to a revolutionary idea:
SPORTFLEX, the world’s first
prefabricated track.
1972
Mantova (Mantua): installation of the first
track at the Italian National Olympic
Committee site – one of the first
synthetic tracks in Italy.
1974
Arrival of the first Disney-licensed balls.
1976
Mondo America opens in
Montreal.
Montreal Olympics: Mondo becomes
Official Supplier of the Olympic Games.
1978
Gallo d’Alba: the Group’s nautical
division, Mondomarine, is founded.
Tango arrives at the Football World Cup
in Argentina.
1979
Pietro Mennea sets the 200 m world
record on a Mondo Sportflex Super X
track.
Technoproject is founded, for the
engineering sector.
Mondo Luxembourg is founded

Mondo is Official Supplier of the Moscow
Olympics.
Zico, Maradona and Platini on Mondo
balls.
1984
Los Angeles Olympics: Carl Lewis the
star.
The champion had already trained on a
Mondo track with his team, the Santa
Monica Track Club.

Mondo becomes IAAF Official Supplier.
1988
Seoul Olympics: 2 new world records.
Mondo Iberica is founded, in Zaragoza.
1990
Italy 1990: 20 million balls sold in less
than two months.
1992
Barcelona: the fifth Olympics.
New outdoor toys are launched.
1994
Sergey Bubka flies high at 6.14 m.
1996
Centenary Olympics in Atlanta.
Michael Johnson wins gold in the 200 and
400 meters.
1999
Greene: a new record in the 100m on a
Mondo Sportflex Super X track.
Research on artificial turf begins.
Kaleidos: a Mondo ball for Juventus
Soccer Club.
2000
The Sydney Olympics: the seventh seal of
approval.

A new home for Mondomarine: the
historic site at Campanelle (SV)
2002
Spain: Mondotufting, a plant dedicated to
producing artificial turf, is founded.
Electric scooters arrive.
2003
Helsinki: The first FIFA Under 21 Football
World Championships on Mondoturf.
2004
Athens Olympics: Mondo supplies the
athletics tracks, basketball and volleyball
courts.
2005
Peru: another FIFA Under 21
Championships played on Mondoturf.
2006
Mondo China is founded in Beijing.
MondoMotors arrives.
2007
Mondotrack FTX is the fastest track of all
time.
Mondo Contract: “Color Project” is
launched in collaboration with the studio
B&B Colordesign.
2008
The Beijing Olympics: Mondo supplies the
athletics tracks, basketball and handball
courts. A whole host of records: 5 new
world records.
Mondo celebrates its 60th anniversary.
2010
Mondo acquires the majority interest in Metaltecnica Venelli, leader in seating systems.
Creation of MondoIdea, innovative rubber flooring system for Contract.
Mondo balls featuring FIFA World Championship 2010 mascot.
2011
Inauguration of the new Juventus Stadium: 38,000 seats installed.
