The famous Millrose Games – held at New York’s Armory Track & Field Center in northern Manhattan which sports a Sportflex Super X 720 athletics track – once again brought an abundance of thrills to American athletics fans.
Four world-leading marks, three national short track records and a world U20 best were among the highlights of an afternoon of action in front of an audience of 5000 spectators.
Australia’s Cameron Myers and USA’s Nikki Hiltz clinched the Wanamaker Mile trophies in the featured event of the packed two-hour international programme, crossing the line in world-leading times of 3:47.57 and 4:19.64 respectively.
First run in 1926 – four decades before the advent of the first commercially available synthetic athletics tracks in the mid-1960s – debut wins by Myers and Hiltz saw them add their names to the Wanamaker Mile’s illustrious role of honour that includes many of the world’s greatest milers.
Another world lead in New York fell to Paris 2024 Olympic Games 1500m winner Cole Hocker.
The American came out on top after an exciting three-way finish to the two miles in 8:07.31, prevailing over Great Britain’s 2023 1500m world champion Josh Kerr, who was second in 8:07.68, with USA’s Parker Wolfe third in a personal best of 8:07.83.
Another highlight was the American teenage super-talent Cooper Lutkenhaus, still just 17, winning the 600m over three laps of the York’s Armory Track & Field Center in a world U20 short track best of 1:14.15.
In addition to the Millrose Games as the highlight on its calendar, the Armory Track & Field Center annually hosts around 100 athletics meetings a year.
This packed schedule demonstrates the Sportflex Super X 720 athletics track’s ability to not only deliver elite world-class performances but also serve as a versatile and durable athletics track for grassroots and community events.
The Millrose Games was the second of this winter’s World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meetings – the world’s premier indoor one-day events – and Mondo athletics tracks will be in the venues staging half of those meetings.
In addition to the Millrose Games the following World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meetings will be on Mondo athletics tracks.
The Tour is the prologue to the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26, between 20-22 March, where Mondo will once again be the athletics track supplier.
