The Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 have come to an end but for Scotstoun Stadium the legacy of the Games is destined to last.
Ahead of the event, the historic Scottish venue was renovated with a new Mondo Sportflex™ Super X 720 prefabricated athletics track, installed in conjunction with DYNAMIK Sport Floors, Mondo's UK partner and Official Provider of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
This project fits perfectly with the model chosen for this edition of the Games: enhancing existing sports infrastructure rather than building new venues, focusing investment on facilities that can continue to serve athletes, clubs, and communities even after the competitions have concluded.
According to SportsNation, approximately £4.7 million has been invested in improving existing venues, including the new Mondo athletics track at Scotstoun Stadium and improvements to the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
The Scotstoun track thus represents not only a surface designed for the Commonwealth Games' track and field competitions, but a permanent investment in the city of Glasgow's sports infrastructure.
During the project, we spoke with Craig Jack, Managing Director of DYNAMIK Sport Floors, to learn more about the new track's features, the challenges faced during its installation, and the value this infrastructure would leave Scotstoun Stadium after Glasgow 2026.
Now that the Games are over, his words take on even greater meaning: the new track is now part of the sporting legacy left by the event to the city.

The consistency and feel of a Mondo athletics track is recognisable and familiar to elite athletes. It offers them the reassurance they crave when competing at the highest level of competition, like in Glasgow.
Glasgow has always been ambitious with staging world events and bring the world’s best to their city. This Games highlights the hunger to continue this trend and provide legacy for the future, keeping Glasgow on the sporting map for years to come, as well as giving back to the community.
DYNAMIK installed the new Mondo athletics track within the Glasgow International Arena ahead 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships and enhanced their reputation for reliability and trust. We are also a compliant company and so surpassed the financial, ethical and environmental standards that procurement processes demand from a company tendering for such high profile and important events, like Glasgow 2026.
DYNAMIK are proud to be a Mondo partner and are able to deliver the civil engineering works, track installation and in-field works to Mondo standards of workmanship. We collaborated with local sports industry partners but also worked very closely with Mondo and their technicians and utilised their network of track design and installation experts. In addition, we were also instrumental in helping develop the contractual design criteria for the client (Glasgow Life, the city’s sport and culture organisation) which helped understand their current and future facility requirements.
We needed to install the track in a very tight timeframe, but when you work with Mondo and its prefabricated products, it takes away 99% of the risk during installation. This provides reassurance for all parties when we say, “we are going to achieve your opening date,” and yes, we did exactly that.
At DYNAMIK we support research into wheelchair sports and the interaction all para athletes have with the surfaces we install. Having am athletics track with a consistent feel and good traction with a low rolling resistance is critical for para athletes and demands a no compromise approach. You get that with Mondo athletics tracks: perfect surface interaction for all users, making it ideal for both athletics and para-athletics competitions.
The ability to train and compete on a Mondo athletics track will bring benefits to athletes of all abilities, aspiring community users and future stars. Just knowing that Commonwealth Games athletes have participated on the same Mondo athletics track and, in many cases, achieved their goals will create a real sense that the Scotstoun Stadium is the place for both community and high-performance athletes. Legacy is key, not just for athletics but for all sports and venues.
Glasgow 2026 has chosen a different model than many major international sporting events: using and improving what the city already possessed, leaving renovated infrastructure immediately available to the community.
The new Mondo athletics track at Scotstoun Stadium is part of this legacy.
After the Commonwealth Games, the Sportflex™ Super X 720 surface will continue to be used for training, competitions, and athletic activities, providing Glasgow's athletes with a track designed to the same standards that Mondo applies to surfaces used for international competitions.
