This year, Santa Claus left gifts at the homes of students at Colegio Compañía de María in Zaragoza, as well as at their own school. The school used the Christmas break to renovate its sports hall, equipping it with the versatile Powerplay flooring. This surface offers excellent athletic performance and stands out for its great resistance to intensive use.
When classes resumed, students and sports teams were immediately able to use the renovated facility, whose courts are marked for multiple sports, including several basketball courts, five-a-side football, and handball. The new flooring—combining the ochre color of the playing area with the blue perimeter—was installed over the existing one, which was appropriately repaired and is now used as a shock-absorbing underlay.
Sport and its values are a fundamental part of education at Colegio Compañía de María, which boasts over 325 years of history in the city and more than a thousand students. Located in the center of Zaragoza, the school building was designed by the prestigious architect Regino Borobio. Among its alumni are prominent figures such as screenwriter Isabel Peña (winner of two Goya Awards and the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts), actor and screenwriter Gerald B. Fillmore, and the current mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca.
Basketball player Carlos Alocén was also a student at the school: he grew up in the youth academy of the Agrupación Compañía de María, and now plays in the Liga Endesa with Dreamland Gran Canaria. He has represented the Spanish national team and is the son of another historic player, Alberto Alocén. In 2021, the school paid tribute to him by naming the center court of the arena after him, whose flooring was recently renovated. On one of the walls of the multi-sports hall, next to his number 12 jersey, two banners are displayed celebrating two recent sporting successes of the school: the 2021 (women's) and 2024 (men's) school basketball cups.
The new Mondo surface installed in the sports hall promises further sporting success for the Colegio Compañía de María in Zaragoza. Powerplay flooring combines natural and synthetic rubber, creating a versatile sports surface characterized by excellent resistance to intensive use and excellent grip in dry conditions.
Thanks to its high durability, this flooring is an ideal solution for schools or educational centers where the halls host various events in addition to sports activities.
Safety is another distinguishing feature of the Powerplay system: it is free of contaminants and holds Greenguard Gold certification, thanks to its extremely low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). During production, 25% of the organic polymers come from biomass, and the system is REACH compliant.
