Returning to school is always a special moment, but it's even more so when you're welcomed into your completely renovated college gym. This is exactly what the students at the Santa María de la Hispanidad Bilingual Private School, located in Madrid's La Piovera neighborhood, in the Hortaleza district, experienced. The gymnasium was equipped with the new Powerplay P1 sports flooring, installed in a vibrant color scheme and featuring markings for basketball, volleyball, and track and field.
Mondo also provided new sports equipment and an electronic multisport scoreboard.
Powerplay P1 sports flooring is composed of an ultra-resistant rubber top layer and a waterproof and shock-absorbing Everlay membrane. Together, these two products form an 8 mm thick surface, ideal for heavy use. Installation required no preparatory work thanks to the existing base.
Over 565 m² of Powerplay P1 surface was installed in the following colors:
- blue-grey on the outer perimeter, on the three lateral running lanes, and in some areas of the basketball court;
- grey for the central basketball playing area;
- lime green inside the three-point areas.
At the center of the court, the crest of the college's sports club, founded in 1968, dominates.
The sports flooring was customized with markings suitable for basketball and volleyball, while three running lanes were designed on the side of the court.
Powerplay rubber sports flooring is installed in combination with Everlay® Green underlays, which act as a barrier against rising damp and allow the system to be installed without gluing to the subfloor.
The system is therefore composed of two layers; the 3 mm Powerplay rubber surface has been completely revamped to offer even higher performance. The new PRO2 technology finish ensures an ultra-matte finish, greater durability, ease of cleaning, and slip resistance ideal for sports. Made with at least 20% recycled raw materials, Powerplay 3 mm combines sustainability and performance, offering a compact and naturally antibacterial surface, available in a wide range of solid and marbled colors.
The second layer, installed on the subfloor, is Everlay® Green.
Made without phthalates or synthetic plasticizers of fossil origin, Everlay® Green uses exclusively biobased plasticizers derived from rapidly renewable European plant biomass. This choice reduces the consumption of non-renewable resources, enhances the use of natural raw materials, and contributes to environmental protection. The product also boasts a biobased carbon content of between 35 and 22%, certified under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) BioPreferred® program.
The elastic uniformity guaranteed by the coupling with Everlay® Green underlayments ensures high impact absorption capacity and optimal safety during sports activities. The absence of joints or welds between the rolls of the surface layer promotes a uniform mechanical response, making the entire system stable and comfortable. Furthermore, the floating installation – made possible by the shock-absorbing underlayment – simplifies installation and maintenance.
Available in multiple thicknesses, Everlay® Green allows you to obtain different levels of shock absorption, compliant with categories P1 and P2 of the EN14904 standard, offering solutions suited to different performance needs.
In addition to the sports flooring, the college students inaugurated:
- new wall-mounted basketball hoops with mini-basketball adapters
- goals for handball and five-a-side football
- volleyball stands
- an electronic multi-sport scoreboard.
