Podoactiva will open a sports biomechanics laboratory with Mondo sports surfaces

Located in the Walqa Technology Park in Huesca, Podoactiva Sportech's technology enables the analysis and optimization of athletes' ergonomics, movements, and performance through realistic game situations. The new sports facilities for kinetic and kinematic analysis include an athletics track, a soccer field, a 3x3 basketball court, and a padel court, all with Mondo sports surfaces and equipment.

The term "game changer" refers to individuals, concepts, strategies, or products that represent a significant leap forward in their field thanks to their bold and innovative vision.

Podoactiva is an internationally groundbreaking company in the fields of podiatry and sports biomechanics. Headquartered in the Walqa Technology Park in Huesca, Spain, brothers Víctor and Javier Alfaro lead this family-run business, whose products and services are already present in over 200 clinics and facilities in 14 countries worldwide.

In its ongoing commitment to innovation, the company is about to inaugurate Podoactiva Sportech, a multi-sports center dedicated to the research, development, and production of customized solutions in podiatry and biomechanics. The facility includes an athletics track, a soccer field, a 3x3 basketball court, and a padel court, all branded Mondo. Mondo has supplied synthetic turf for soccer and padel, multisport and athletics surfaces, basketball goals and hoops, among other equipment.

The first collaboration between Podoactiva and Mondo dates back 15 years, when synthetic turf fields and surfaces were installed at Podoactiva's headquarters in Huesca to analyze the biomechanics of foot strike in various sports.

The Podoactiva Sportech Project

The new Podoactiva Sportech complex spans 5,000 square meters and is located between the two buildings housing Podoactiva's headquarters in Walqa. The main innovation lies in the kinetic and kinematic technologies used in the sports surfaces, which enable the analysis of athletes' biomechanical performance in real-world situations. Kinetic technologies measure force with sensors embedded in the ground, while kinematic technologies collect data on inertia and athletic movements. After analyzing all this information, Podoactiva is able to develop optimal, customized tools and solutions for each athlete and sport.

The soon-to-open Podoactiva Sportech facilities include several fields and sports areas, all equipped with the Mondo brand:

  • A 640-square-meter athletics track, featuring Sportflex Super X 720 surfacing, surrounds most of the other sports fields. The 200-meter track features three lanes, two lanes for the long jump and triple jump, and a short 13-meter straight. The surface installed at the Podoactiva Sportec track is the same one used by top athletes around the world for training and competition, ensuring that biomechanical measurements accurately reflect the real-world conditions many athletes encounter on a daily basis.
  • The athletics track includes a soccer field with 1,800 square meters of  X3 PLUS synthetic grass with a resilient underlay. The installed system also incorporates sand and organic cork infill, a sustainable solution that complies with regulations against the use of microplastics. Mondo also provided various soccer equipment, including seven-a-side soccer goals, two benches, corner flags, and safety nets. In one of the semicircular sections of the athletics track, there is a 3x3 basketball court with a 4.5-millimeter-thick Sportflex Foca surface and a Mondo basketball hoop. The playing surface installed in this area offers versatility for many sports and stands out for its excellent resistance to wear and intensive use thanks to the ultra-durable rubber.

The new Podoactiva Sportech sports facility was completed with a padel court located outside the athletics track. The court is equipped with the Supercourt XN synthetic turf system.

A long-standing partnership

With this innovative laboratory featuring realistic gaming scenarios, Podoactiva and Mondo reaffirm their commitment and mutual collaboration to offer athletes the best and most innovative biomechanical solutions possible. The relationship between the two companies dates back to 2010, when Mondo supplied various types of sports surfaces, including synthetic turf, Mondoelastic wood flooring with a beech finish, and flooring for an athletics track and a jumping platform, allowing Podoactiva to analyze athletes' biomechanical performance in its indoor laboratories.
