GOALS, EMOTIONS, AND A NEW ERA FOR THE SYNTHETIC TURF FOOTBALL PITCH IN BAIO, SPAIN

Platas Reinoso pitch is being renovated with X3 PLUS synthetic turf and Mondo sports equipment.

The Municipality of Zas, in Galicia, inaugurated the new Platas Reinoso synthetic turf football pitch, completely renovated with the Mondo X3 PLUS system. In addition to the new synthetic turf, the facility was equipped with Mondo seats, an electronic scoreboard, goals, and flags, offering a playing experience that emphasizes performance, safety, and sustainability.

When a new synthetic turf football pitch is inaugurated, the best way to celebrate is, of course, with a game. This is exactly what happened in Baio, in the province of A Coruña (Spain), where the renovated Platas Reinoso pitch was inaugurated with a day of sports, matches, recognitions for local footballing legends, and a commemoration dedicated to Antonio Platas Tasende, who contributed to the facility's creation.

Thanks to the investment of the Municipality of Zas, the pitch was completely renovated with Mondo's X3 PLUS synthetic turf football pitch system, a solution designed to offer high technical performance even in facilities subjected to intensive use.

The project was completed with the supply of new Mondo sports equipment, including Mondoseat seats, an electronic scoreboard, regulation goals for 11-a-side and 7-a-side football, and corner flags.

A new synthetic turf soccer field designed for high performance

"Today we have one of the best fields on the Costa da Morte," Mayor Manuel Muíño declared during the inauguration ceremony.

This is confirmed by the technical characteristics of the new facility, constructed with 7,500 m² of the X3 PLUS synthetic turf fiber system, developed to ensure excellent interaction between the player, the playing surface, and the ball.

The system combines 5NX and XNOVA monofilaments with MONOFEEL prefibrillated fiber, achieving a high turf density and extraordinary wear resistance—particularly important characteristics for synthetic turf soccer fields intended for daily training and competitions.

The result is a surface capable of maintaining consistent performance, playing comfort, and aesthetic quality over time.

A FIFA-certified system designed for performance, durability, and sustainability

The X3 PLUS system is FIFA Quality and FIFA Quality Pro certified, the international certifications that demonstrate compliance with the highest performance standards for synthetic turf soccer fields.

The surface combines the latest-generation XNOVA monofilaments with 5NX monofilaments and prefibrillated Monofeel filaments, a solution that combines the advantages of monofilament and prefibrillated fibers. The result is improved control of the ball's bounce and roll, greater infill stability, and a significant reduction in infill migration even with intensive use.

The high fiber density and the unique zigzag configuration used during the tufting process also help increase the durability of the turf, limiting yarn loss over time and maintaining the high performance of the synthetic turf soccer field.

Aesthetically, the three different shades of green of the fibers reproduce the natural look of grass, enhancing the visual quality of the facility.

For the Platas Reinoso pitch, Cork120 was chosen, a 100% natural high-performance cork infill, a solution completely free of microplastics that contributes to making the system even more sustainable.

Thanks to cork's unique cellular structure, rich in gas-filled microcells, Cork120 offers high elasticity and effective shock absorption, maintaining its mechanical characteristics over time. It also has low heat absorption under solar radiation, high resistance to humidity, odors, and fire, as well as excellent durability.

Unlike some mixed organic infills, Cork120 is composed exclusively of cork granules and does not contain dust derived from the crushing of other plant materials, thus helping to preserve the system's drainage capacity and ensuring uniform elastic behavior across the entire playing surface.

A sustainable project, from removal of the old turf to the new installation

Sustainability was a key element of the project.

Before installing the new synthetic turf for the soccer field, Mondo removed the previous system installed in 2008 using a sustainable removal process, which allows for the recovery and valorization of some of the existing materials, reducing environmental impact and optimizing the project's time and costs.

At the same time, preparation and leveling of the subgrade were carried out to ensure the best conditions for the new installation.

The new system also contributes to protecting the environment and the health of athletes: it holds Greenguard Gold certification, which guarantees low emissions of volatile compounds into indoor air, and a certification issued by CSI S.p.A. (Centro Sviluppo Materiali Plastici, IMQ Group) attesting to the complete recoverability of the materials.

New sports equipment for a completely renovated facility

The field's renovation didn't just involve the playing surface.

The facility was completed with:

  • 320 Mondoseat 4 seats
  • electronic scoreboard
  • regulation goals for 11-a-side football
  • goals for 7-a-side football
  • corner flags

This equipment makes the Platas Reinoso a modern, functional facility, ready to host the activities of local sports clubs.

With this project, the Platas Reinoso field joins the numerous Mondo synthetic turf football fields already present in the province of A Coruña, along with those built in the municipalities of Zas, Vimianzo, Malpica, Dumbría, Carballo, Arteixo, Negreira, and Porto do Son.

This further demonstrates Mondo's commitment to developing high-performance sports surfaces, designed to offer playing quality, safety, durability, and sustainability to facility operators and football clubs.
