The Chinese city is reclaiming the World Athletics Championships, which had been canceled in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. The Nanjing Sports Training Centre, equipped with Mondo’s athletics track and equipment, is ready to host a world championship that promises to be legendary.
With only a few hours to go before the start of the 2025 World Indoor Athletics Championships, this event is set to deliver historic performances. Nanjing (China) will host this global event from March 21 to 23, which was originally scheduled for March 2020 but was postponed due to the Covid pandemic. It was the first major international sporting event to be canceled, but now the city is ready to shine like never before. The Indoor Athletics Arena at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre is equipped with Mondo’s athletics track Sportflex Super X 720 K39 . The company has also produced and customized in Spain the equipment that will be used during the competitions, and it will provide technical support throughout the championship.
The athletics track for the World Indoor Championships is equipped with Sportflex Super X 720 K39, a sport surface with a long and well-established reputation (numerous world records have been set on it), offering athletes the perfect combination of shock absorption, vertical deformation, and energy return. Its upper rubber layer ensures exceptional elasticity, as well as excellent grip and traction. Additionally, the air cells in the lower layer deform in three dimensions, improving reaction times and reducing fatigue and injury risks for athletes.
Mondo has also produced and customized in Spain the high-competition track and field equipment that will be used during the World Athletics Championships Nanjing 25. The extensive list of equipment includes hurdles, uprights, landing areas for jumps, carts, indicators, and relay batons.
The spectacular range of World Athletics-Mondo equipment will also be showcased at the Nanjing World Championships, featuring pole vault and high jump uprights (both equipped with LED technology that synchronizes with the event proceedings), starting blocks, weight carts, and chalk containers. All Mondo equipment is personalized with the branding of this championship.
The World Indoor Tour Gold in Madrid, held on February 28 at Gallur on Mondo’s track and equipment, and the European Athletics Championships in Apeldoorn (Netherlands), also held on a Mondo track, have already highlighted some of the key athletes to watch in Nanjing. Among the international athletes recommended by World Athletics are long jumper Anthaya Charlton (Bahamas), Birke Haylom (1500m, Ethiopia), Josh Hoey (1000m, USA), Henriette Jæger (400m, Norway), and Ackera Nugent (60m hurdles, Jamaica). Additionally, Mondo Duplantis, just a few days ago in Liévin—on a Mondo track—once again broke the world record in pole vault, setting it at 6.27 meters.
The Nanjing World Indoor Championships start tomorrow on Mondo’s track and equipment, but the company will also play a leading role in the upcoming World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25, which will take place this year in Japan. Less than six months remain until the arrival of the world’s 2,000 best athletes at the impressive National Stadium in Tokyo, which will host the event from September 13 to 21, with a Mondo athletics track ready to welcome them. The competition's motto, “Every second, SUGOI,” means “Every second, extraordinary.” And it surely will be.
The World Athletics Championships, both indoor and outdoor, are held every two years. Changes to the international athletics calendar due to the pandemic have resulted in two world championships taking place in 2025: the indoor event in Nanjing and the outdoor event in Tokyo. In 2026, only one World Championship will be held, the indoor event in Toruń (Poland), from March 20 to 22, once again on a Mondo athletics track. The next outdoor championship, in 2027, already has a venue: Beijing’s National Stadium, which will also feature a Mondo athletics track.
