London Diamond League 2025: Mondo athletics track shows its timeless quality
Damp conditions don’t stop records falling on Mondo athletics track
Even in Britian, noted for its less-than-sunny summers, the thunderstorms that preceded the London Diamond League meeting on Saturday 19 July were something out of the ordinary.
However, the damp conditions just served to demonstrate the superior qualities of the Mondo athletics track in all conditions as records fell throughout the afternoon.
By the end of the meeting, the ‘record count’ in London was:
- 3 Area records
- 3 world-leading marks
- 5 meeting records
- 35 personal bests
London Stadium
The London Stadium – still widely known as the Olympic Stadium after being the centrepiece of the London 2012 Olympic Games – has had a Mondo athletics track ever since it was opened on 5 May 2012, just a few short months before the Games got underway. Initially a Mondotrack was part of the stadium’s fabric but this was upgraded to a Mondotrack WS track in 2016 ahead of the World Athletics Championships London 2017.
The long list of records, and other outstanding performances, at the latest Diamond League meeting show the track at the London Stadium has clearly stood the test of time and lost none of its ability to help athletes excel, whatever the weather.
