Permanently perfect, banking on a Mondo indoor athletics track

The biggest athletics event of the 2026 indoor season – the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 from 20-22 March – will be once again held on a Mondo athletics track.

In little more than two months’ time, the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Toruń in Poland will host the 17th edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships where Mondo has been the supplier of the main athletics track.

In addition to this impressive individual statistic for the premier global indoor athletics competition, Mondo can rightly claim to be the world’s foremost producer of indoor athletics tracks.

The company has supplied 28 of the 46 current World Athletics Certified Athletics Facilities as well as many other indoor athletics tracks around the world.

Solutions for every scenario

Mondo offers a variety of solutions for superior indoor athletics tracks, including permanent, portable and variable hydraulic banked track systems, alternatives to tracks permanently installed on an asphalt or concrete foundation.

However, the prevailing feature of the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Toruń – which also staged the 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships – is that has a permanent banked athletics track.

Ten meetings were held on it during the first three months of 2025 and there will be an equal number staged this year ahead of the World Athletics Indoor Championships, emphatically demonstrating the track’s durability and performance qualities.

Among them will be the final 2026 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting, the ORLEN Copernicus Cup in Toruń, on 22 February, a full-blown dress rehearsal for the world indoor championships.
Boasting a renewed Sportflex Super X K39 athletics track, the Arena Toruń is also Poland’s foremost training facility for athletes of all levels, from grassroots and local club members to elite internationals.

Evolution and experience

Permanent banked indoor athletics tracks are nothing new, dating back to the 1950s.

However, like all technologies, the concept has evolved greatl over the last 70 years.

Mondo, with 45 years of experience of its own in providing indoor athletics solutions, installed their first permanent banked indoor athletics track in 2013 at the AIT International Arena at the Athlone Institute of Sport in Ireland.

Nowadays, in contrast to the concrete or asphalt solutions that were once adopted, modern permanent banked athletics tracks are usually characterized by having a permanent steel and plywood structures

Permanent banked athletics tracks can be assembled in a matter of days, and the adjustable structure means that they can maintain a perfect dimensional accuracy for however long they are in operation.
