NCAA Division I Championships Again Taking Place on Mondo

Once again, the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place on a Mondo track! The March 10-11, 2023, competition will see the best collegiate athletes in the nation descend upon the Albuquerque Convention Center to vie for the division title.

History of Albuquerque Convention Center

The centerpiece of the city’s indoor track scene, the Albuquerque Convention Center features a Mondo portable, banked track with a Mondotrack WS surface installed in 2021 after its previous Mondo track withstood heavy use over 15 years of indoor track seasons.

Since its first Mondo track was installed in 2005, the convention center has been selected to host numerous high-profile regional and national events, including:

  • NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships
  • NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships
  • Mountain West Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships
  • USATF Indoor Championships
  • USATF Masters Indoor Championships

What’s more, athletes have set state, national, and world records and numerous personal bests on the track.

Each indoor track season, the convention center hosts 10 to 12 meets. It is also the home venue for the University of New Mexico’s indoor track and field team.

The track features a distinctive color palette of turquoise and cherry red, which is a tribute to the color scheme of UNM’s track and field uniforms; a Mondo Fast Break infield Mondo designed specifically for this application; an eight-lane, 60-meter straight; a high-jump area; and two long jump/triple jump runways.
