ITALIAN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ANCONA: U20 LONG JUMP WORLD RECORD FOR LARISSA IAPICHINO
Larissa Iapichino broke the world U20 indoor record (pending ratification) in the long jump with a leap of 6.91m at the Italian Indoor Championships in Ancona on Saturday (20) on a
Mondo hydraulic track. Larissa equalled the Italian indoor record of her mother, Fiona May, reached in 1998 in Valencia, on a track equipped with
a Mondo sports flooring.
With her fifth-round leap, Iapichino, 18, added three centimetres to the mark set by Heike Drechsler in 1983.Her mark is extraordinary: best jump in the world in 2021 and Olympic standard for the Tokyo Games, where
the athlete will compete again on a Mondo track.
But there were other interesting results, here are some:
in the women's high jump,
Elena Vallortigara was expected to return to competitions. The athlete won the title with an excellent 1.96 after a period of stoppage due to a right ankle problem that has affected the indoor season so far;
In the men's high jump: 2016 world indoor champion Gianmarco Tamberi won the men's high jump with a world-leading 2.35m - his best leap since July 2016. The 28-year-old who uses the Ancona facility as a training ground, and who
set his best world performance of the year on the same track a few weeks ago,flying over 2.32 meters, had first-time clearances over every bar up to and including that height. He ended his series with three tries at 2.38m, all of which were unsuccessful, but he was still delighted with his performance;
Men's 60m: Marcell Jacobs stopped the clock at 6.55. Behind him appeared Chituru Ali with his personal best of 6.69;
Luca Lai took the podium with 6.74. Same time for
Massimiliano Ferraro. 6.75 for Antonio Moro;
Shot put: the best performance of the championships came thanks to Leonardo Fabbri who shooted a consistent 21.45 reaching 14 cm from the Italian record that belongs to him;
Heptatlon: Dario Dester closed his performance with 6076 points, which is the Italian record
