Toruń shows off Tamex and Mondo’s successful partnership

World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 was a showcase for Mondo’s Sportflex™ Super X 720 athletics track.

Successful commercial relationships are critical to business success, and in the world of athletics tracks there are few more successful than the long-standing alliance between Tamex and Mondo.

Tamex Obiekty Sportowe SA, to give Mondo’s valued Polish partner its full name – which translates into English as Tamex Sports Facilities – was founded in 2007.

Barely three years elapsed before the two companies found each other and joined forces.

Mondo athletics track responds to the climate challenge

“The main challenge for us is the short period of the year during which the surface can be installed, due to the climate conditions in Poland. But Mondo surfaces perform well in any climate and are resistant to the frost and heat in our cold winters and hot summers.” commented Robert Burzycki,.

Among the best-known athletics track installations in Poland, and indeed in the world, is in the Kujawsko‑Pomorska Arena Toruń.

Proof of its superior status came when the Arena was chosen to host the recent World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26.

However, the venue, athletics track and combined expertise of both Tamex and Mondo all passed the test of staging the world’s most important indoor athletics competition with flying colours.

Almost 700 athletes from around the world were in action at this year’s championships in Toruń.

Collectively they delivered two world records, many continental and national records as well as six championship records and 12 world-leading performances, all achieved in no small part thanks to the Arena’s Sportflex Super X 720™ athletics track.

Performance a priority

The principal feature of the permanent banked track has, like all Mondo products, has been engineered to ensure performance, safety and long-lasting durability.

“Arena Toruń is truly a unique facility in Poland, hosting an exceptionally high number of top-level competitions (including the 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships and the annual Copernicus Cup, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting) and serves as a training ground for professional athletes.

“No other indoor facility in the country could serve as a benchmark for assessing the durability of an athletics track.

“Considering the intensity of the facility’s use since 2014 and remembering that the track’s lifespan has easily exceeded a decade, I believe this demonstrates both the quality of the Mondo surface and the effectiveness of Tamex’s installation,” added Burzycki.

Famously, the Kujawsko‑Pomorska Arena Toruń’s original Mondo athletics track was actually installed in Sopot – nearly 200km away to the north of Toruń and about two hours hard driving between the two cities – ahead of the 2014 World Athletics Indoor Championships.

Afterwards it transported by Tamex and Mondo to its new home and enjoying a prolonged second lease of life.

Twelve years later, the World Athletics Indoor Championships returned to Poland and once again the fruits of Tamex and Mondo’s longstanding and hugely productive partnership was on display for the global athletics family.
