The seventh World Athletics Relays will take place in Guangzhou, China on May 10-11, 2025. Mondo has had the honour of providing the athletics track at five of the previous six editions.
2014 – The inaugural World Athletics Relays in Nassau, on a newly installed Mondo Sportflex Super X 720 TM athletics track, was a huge success with three world records. Jamaica reduced the men’s 4x200m mark to 1:18.63 while Kenya’s men’s and women’s 4x1500m quartets set world records of 14:22.22 and16:33.58 respectively.
2015 – The event returned to The Bahamas and the USA took the plaudits and the Golden Baton by winning seven of the 10 events on the programme, including setting world records in both distance relays with their men’s and women’s teams running 9:15.50 and 10:36.50 respectively.
2017 – A thrilling climax to two days of competition saw future Olympic champion Steven Gardiner, Rio 2016 Olympic 400m gold medallist Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Anthonique Strachan and Michael Mathieu give the host nation a stunning mixed 4x400m victory over the favoured USA.
2021 – The event was held in Europe for the first time and once again Mondo was to the fore, with the Silesian Stadium also boasting of a Sportflex Super X 720 TM athletics track. Polish duo of Joanna Jozwik and European indoor 800m champion Patryk Dobek produced the moment of the weekend when they won the mixed 2x2x200m.
2024 – The Thomas Robinson Stadium in the Bahamian capital had been upgraded and sported a Mondotrack WS TM. The 52 competing nations responded with no less than four Championships records, four continental records, six world-leading marks and 15 national records.
The men’s and women’s 4x100m, 4x400m and mixed 4x400m relay will be contested at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 in September so events in Guangzhou could provide an insight into who might be in medal contention in Japan later this year.
Our company will be present at the 25th World Athletics Championships Tokyo.
