A perfect artificial turf football pitch even after hours of training that can withstand the sun and rain. The dream of every coach has now become reality due to the latest generation of synthetic turf, ideal for teaching the youth the fundamentals of the game of soccer.

On February 24, 2012, the Trigoria sports center, inaugurated its new main artificial turf football field, Field A, named after one of the players, Agostino Di Bartolomei, a symbol in the history of AS Roma. The event, organized by the Giallorossi with Mondo, was an opportunity to reaffirm the relationship between the team and the company from Alba, a relationship that continues with satisfaction since 2006. "We are very proud that the Field A is entitled to Agostino Di Bartolomei - said Maurizio Stroppiana, President of the Mondo, the opening day - a field where Mondo has the opportunity to express its expertise in the installation of a system designed for football professionals, a shared endeavor with AS Roma to make this a true excellence in the field of synthetic turf in Italy. "

Artificial turf football pitches of the lastest generation

At the request of AS Roma, Mondo has provided the Trigoria center three fields with the latest generation of artificial grass. In particular, the Field A, named after Agostino Di Bartolomei, has been achieved by installing the system Mondoturf 3NX 60, with a combination of organic Ecomondo Topmix. It is an artificial turf field approved Professional LND (National Amateur League), approval completely different from the standard for amateurs. The camp was installed in November 2011 and the approval was obtained in March 2012. Two other fields of reduced measures were installed in Trigoria, but in both cases 3NX synthetic grass 50mm was used with the Ecofill infill.

A forced choice

One of the most determined advocates of the installation of synthetic turf at the Trigoria sports center was Bruno Conti, banner of Rome and the Italian national team in the 80s. He is now responsible for the youth sector of the Giallorossi. He wanted to merge with the Trigoria center all of the youth activity to AS Roma, who before were spread to other fields in the Rome area. A choice that made it necessary for the company to choose the three synthetic fields for the sports center. "As the head of the youth sector, having nine teams available, I wanted the synthetic turf, so as to cover the whole working week. From Monday to Sunday, in fact, we can train or play league games always beautiful fields, which allow us to give continuity to our work, come rain or under the sun. The synthetic turf, combined with the lighting, are the solution that will allow us to train not only the Juniors, Cadets and Spring, which takes the field at 14:30, but also those children who come after school, and train to 18. We are very pleased with what has been done, "says Bruno Conti.
"In addition, by using the field by several athletes every day, we chose the artificial turf because it lasts longer and requires less maintenance. A grass field, if it were used in an intense manner, would eventually deteriorate quickly, especially in the winter, "said Maurizio Cenci, plant manager.

Synthetic turf like natural grass

Although a growing number of teams are training today on synthetic turf, the league matches take place mostly on natural grass fields. The switch from synthetic to natural does not seem to be a problem today. "In my day there were not many synthetic turf fields. I remember having played on synthetic turf when I took a tour in the United States with the Cosmos team. I believe it is a question of habit, and that the playing on the synthetic is very important at the youth level , especially with regard to learning the basics: just think of the rolling of the ball on the latest generation of these fields is perfect . At first, we must adapt, but the boys have adapted to it very quickly, "says Bruno Conti. Today's synthetic turf fields are primarily used for training, but it is hard not to imagine that in the future there will be even more and more within the large stadiums. "A few examples already exist. Today, technology is such that in some cases it is hard to distinguish between a natural grass field and an artificial one, "said Maurizio Cenci.

The importance of maintenance

One of the reasons that led AS Roma to choose a synthetic grass field is the durability of the turf. "A field like that of Trigoria, with proper maintenance, can last approximately 10 years. It is then up to the needs of the user, if they want to have an always perfect field you may want to replace it after 7 or 8 years, otherwise you can use it without any problems for 12 or 13 years in a row, "says Giampaolo Gola, Mondo Area Manager Mondo. Upon installation of the field, the company provides a maintenance schedule, which is necessary to get the most out of synthetic turf. "The maintenance program is required to obtain approval from the league. In the case of AS Roma, there are already maintenance staff within the center of Trigoria who care for natural grass fields and are now equipped with equipment for routine maintenance of the synthetic ones. The maintenance is carried out by Mondo once a year, "concludes Gola.

A touch of color

In addition to the synthetic turf, the presence of Mondo in the Trigoria sports center is clearly visible on the gallery overlooking the main field, thanks to the seats of the series Venelli NOVANTA/35, yellow and red as requested by AS Roma. It is about 1000 seats identical to those installed in the San Siro and Rome Olympic Stadium.
