The Reno-Sparks Convention Center held the first meet on its new Mondo track: the Silver State Invitational, hosted by the University of Nevada.
The largest and one of just a few indoor track facilities in the Western United States, the Reno-Sparks Convention Center boasts a new custom-made Mondo portable banked track. The facility is also slated to be World Athletics certified, making it eligible to host world-class track competitions.
The new state-of-the-art Mondo track will serve as Nevada’s home track, allowing Wolf Pack athletes to practice more frequently while providing the Division I university with a venue for hosting events. A schedule of upcoming meets for the Silver State’s only indoor track, including several USATF competitions, is here.
Gray and blue, the 200-meter, six-lane portable banked track with 12-degree banking features Mondo’s Super X 720 surface, which provides the optimal blend of energy return, comfort, safety, and durability for everything from daily training to the toughest competitions. An eight-lane sprint straightaway, two high jump areas, two long jump/triple jump and two pole vault runways, a warmup area, and access paths connecting the track oval to the warmup area also have Mondo’s Super X 720 surface.
With its frame’s claw-locking mechanism, Mondo’s portable track can be assembled and disassembled quickly and easily in just a few days without screws or bolts, guaranteeing consistent tightness and perfect dimensional accuracy, installation after installation. When disassembled, the track can be stored elsewhere, freeing up space for other purposes. The Mondo portable track at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center will be stored from April through October in a climate-controlled facility nearby.
Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority executives have high hopes for the facility beyond regional track meets. RSCVA President and CEO Mike Larragueta is confident that Reno's robust sports culture, combined with the need for a cutting-edge track, will provide the facility with the competitive edge required to attract a wide variety of events, from high school to AAU, collegiate, and NCAA conference meets, and even NCAA championships.
RSCVA executives also believe the track will add to the area’s economic development, bringing in additional tax revenue from November through March.
