The new sustainability report of the Mondo Group

We are proud to share the most significant data on corporate sustainability, presented in our new Sustainability Report.

The defined and structured organization of resources dedicated to sustainability—from the Head of Innovation and Sustainability to the twelve Sustainability Experts—has facilitated the implementation of ambitious projects, leading to concrete results, particularly in terms of corporate social responsibility, the environment, and inclusiveness.

Corporate Sustainability: When Improvement Is Measurable

The corporate sustainability certification process undertaken by Mondo several years ago has enabled the implementation of measurement and analysis of energy impact (with the achievement of ISO 50001 - Energy Management certification) and direct and indirect emissions (ISO 14064 - Carbon Footprint) for all Group companies.

The data collected, combined with continuous monitoring, is a valuable resource for measuring and evaluating corporate sustainability actions.

Among the key results achieved in 2024:

  • 68% of energy needs were met from renewable sources, confirming the ongoing transition to a more sustainable production model.
  • 11% of energy consumed was produced internally, thanks to the company's photovoltaic systems, strengthening energy self-sufficiency.
  • 1,511 tCO₂eq of direct emissions were avoided thanks to self-generation of electricity through photovoltaic systems.
  • 84% of the waste produced was sent for recovery, reducing the environmental impact of industrial activities.

In line with its energy policy, Mondo continues to believe in and invest in solar energy.

After the installation of the Mondo Tufting (2022) and Unice Toys (2023) plants, the new photovoltaic plant at Mondo Luxembourg was inaugurated in 2024, with a revamping/repowering project at the Artigo headquarters.

From inclusion to training: people at the center

Even before it became one of the cornerstones of our corporate social responsibility, as an international Group, we have always seen diversity as a positive value, to be defended and promoted.

This approach was crowned in 2024 with the adoption of a Group Policy on Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion.

Also during the year, Mondo S.p.A. and Artigo obtained the UNI PdR 125:2022 corporate sustainability certification, relating to the proper management of gender equality within organizations.

Another value in which the Mondo Group strongly believes—as it is at the root of all its successes—is the development of human capital.

Over 12,000 hours of training, including technical, managerial, and health and safety training, were provided, an 82% increase compared to 2023.

Mondo's 2024 Impact Projects

2024 was an important year for corporate sustainability, with the completion of two high-impact projects:

Development of Gaia flooring

This surface represents a step forward for sustainable flooring, with an average 60% reduction in GWP (Global Warming Potential) over its entire life cycle compared to standard products.

This result was achieved by introducing several innovations:

  • Use of bio-attributed rubber, i.e., produced with bio-based oils from plants or seeds not intended for human consumption
  • Silica obtained from rice husks
  • Recycled calcium carbonate, derived from Carrara white marble processing waste
  • Incorporation of material derived from recycled industrial by-products
  • Bottom layer free of additional pigments

The development of Gaia fully embraces the circular strategy that Mondo has adopted for corporate sustainability: valorizing natural waste materials or industrial by-products, reducing the use of virgin resources.

Mondotrack Ellipse Impulse: Ecodesign for Track and Field

The new Mondo athletics track made its debut at the Stade de France as the official surface for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

It is a "true example of cutting-edge eco-design," a sustainable athletics track composed of approximately 50% recycled, bio-based, or rapidly renewable materials by weight.

The track also introduces a new elliptical honeycomb design that increases shock absorption and improves athletic dynamics, developed using Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation.

Certifications

The certifications obtained by the MONDO Group represent concrete confirmation of our ongoing commitment to quality, safety, energy efficiency, environmental protection, and social responsibility.

This is a structured and progressive process that translates the principles underlying our sustainability strategy into internationally recognized standards.

Management Systems

MONDO Group adopts an integrated management system certified according to the main international standards.

Some of these standards—such as ISO 50001 for energy management and ISO 14064 for measuring greenhouse gas emissions—have already been illustrated in the results of our sustainability journey, but here they find their place within the overall framework of the Group's certifications.

The certifications of the Group's companies include:

  • ISO 9001 – Quality, for production and management processes geared towards continuous improvement;
  • ISO 14001 – Environment, for environmental protection and the reduction of impacts throughout the production cycle;
  • ISO 45001 – Occupational Health and Safety, for the protection of people's well-being;
  • ISO 50001 – Energy, for the efficient and responsible management of energy consumption;
  • ISO 14064 – GHG Emissions, for the transparent measurement and reporting of climate-altering emissions.

Products

Our products also meet rigorous environmental and sustainability standards, demonstrated by internationally recognized certifications:

  • EPD – Environmental Product Declaration, which certifies the environmental impact throughout the life cycle;
  • Cradle to Cradle Certified®, for products developed according to the principles of the circular economy;
  • UL GREENGUARD, which guarantees low VOC emissions and indoor air quality;
  • ISCC Plus, for the traceability of bio-based raw materials;
  • LEED / BREEAM / WELL / FloorScore, awards that attest to the contribution of materials to the sustainability and comfort of buildings.

Social and Governance

Our commitment to social responsibility and solid governance is confirmed by certifications and tools that promote fairness, transparency, and integrity.

Among these, UNI PdR 125:2022 – Italian Standards (owned by ARTIGO and MONDO Spa) Gender Equality, already mentioned in the 2024 results report, is part of a broader framework of policies and practices aimed at empowering people and ensuring equal opportunities.

The model is completed by:

  • BSCI – Supply Chain Code of Ethics, for fair and responsible working conditions;
  • MONDO Code of Ethics, a benchmark for integrity of conduct;
  • Organizational Model pursuant to Legislative Decree 231/08 and Whistleblowing Channel, dedicated tools that strengthen the culture of legality and prevention.
