Two new records on Mondo!

Record night in Valencia: Ugandan Cheptegei and Ethiopian Gidey broke historic records on 10,000 and 5,000 meters.

The stage: The Turia athletics track, Valencia, equipped with Sportflex Super X 720.

Last night two new pages were written in athletics' history books: Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei broke the men's 10,000m record, while Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey broke the women's 5,000m record. Athletes competed on a Mondo track (in particular on Sportflex Super X 720), installed at the Turia athletics track in Valencia.

Cheptegei impressed with a spectacular race and reached the finish line with an official time of 26:11:00 (six seconds less than Kenenisa Bekele's previous record set 15 years ago). The Ugandan arrived in Valencia full of confidence: At the Diamond League meeting in Monaco last August, he had already snatched Bekele's 5,000 meters world record with a time of 12:35.36, breaking another record from 2004.

Cheptegei is truly a record man; he also holds the 5km record. Cheptegei plans to stay in Spain training in preparation for his next race: the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships in Gdynia, Poland on October 17th (where there will be another Mondo track waiting for him). Will we witness new records from him there?

If the Ugandan scored an impeccable performance, no less admirable was that of Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey, holder of the new world record on 5,000 meters with a time of 14:06.62 . Gidey managed to lower Tirunesh Dibaba's previous world record by four seconds, smashing a 12-year record.

Sportflex Super X 720
The Mondo track on which Cheptegei and Gidey made history yesterday, the 13.5 mm Sportflex Super X 720, is the ideal athletic track surface for facilities dedicated to both competition and training because it guarantees athletes the perfect combination of shock absorption, vertical deformation and energy return. The vulcanized, prefabricated structure of Sportflex Super X 720 K39 ensures uniform dynamic response across the entire track, providing optimal control over stride length. It's the perfect solution for areas of facilities dedicated to conventional training and competition because it guarantees a shock absorption coefficient of 39% and meets World Atlhetics performance criteria. Sportflex Super X 720 is one example of Mondo's commitment to environmental sustainability: Made in Gallo d'Alba factory, which is powered by a photovoltaic system, it includes up to 38% contaminant-free, recycled post-consumer and post-industrial material, and 10% rapidly renewable materials. Sportflex Super X 720 has GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD Gold certification, due to its minimal volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and the absence of amines and isocyanates.

Turia track
Located in Section III of the old Turia riverbed in Valencia in the La Petxina district, the track where the two world records were broken last night has been equipped with Sportflex Super X 720 flooring since 2018. Since its inauguration in 1991, the track has always chosen Mondo: two Spanish championships were held in this facility, in 1992 and in 2001.
