Mondo is proud to have supplied athletics tracks to the stadia that stage Africa’s premier athletics meetings and the qualities of the Sportflex Super X 720™ K39 track were amply demonstrated at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting in Nairobi on 24 April.
The Nyayo National Stadium in the Kenyan capital annually stages around a dozen high-level athletics meetings, including all the athletics powerhouse’s major domestic events.
However, once a year it also throws its doors open to the leading athletes around world at the annual Kip Keino Classic.
This year it was the American sprinter Gabby Thomas, who bagged three gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, who stole the show.
Thomas warmed up with a sparkling 100m victory in 11.01 into a breeze and then over 200m, the reigning Olympic champion in the longer sprint held off her inspired training partner Cambrea Sturgis to win a world-leading 21.89 with the latter setting a personal best of 21.93.
Other highlights from the 2026 Kip Keino Classic included:
Africa’s only Diamond league meeting will be held in Rabat, Morocco on 31 May and a Mondo athletics track will be beneath the feet of the competitors there as well.
The Stade Olympique Prince Moulay Abdallah which will stage the meeting has a Mondotrack WS™ athletics track which was installed in April 2025 ahead of last summer’s Diamond League series. It is widely considered to be one of Africa’s finest sports facilities.
Mondo athletics tracks will be present at no less than nine if the 2026 Diamond League meetings, including the season opener in Shanghai/Keqiao, China on 16 May and the two-day final in Brussels on 4-5 September.
